HEARING - OUR SPECIAL SENSE

Our hearing is indeed a special sense. It adds immeasurably to the quality of our lives. The sound of a loved one's voice, the sound of fine music - these are sounds that enrich our lives. Children need good hearing in order to develop speech.

Symptoms of hearing loss:
  • Hearing people speaking but having difficulty understanding the words
  • Tinnitus - ringing, buzzing or humming noises
  • Finding it difficult to hear when there is background noise
  • Turning up the volume on the TV or radio
  • Difficulty in School
  • Delay in speech development
People with mild or moderate hearing loss may not be aware that they have a problem. This is because it can develop gradually over years.

Causes of hearing loss include loud noise exposure, recurrent ear infections, trauma to the ear or head, genetic influences, certain medications and aging.

Our Certfied Audiologists have access to the latest technology to assist our physicians in diagnosing the problem. Treatment may involve medication, surgery or hearing aids.
